Do you believe in love?
My resident explained love to me in scientific terms, in both evolutionary and chemistry terms. She doesn’t believe in monogamous relationships, and thinks love is just a chemical reaction in the brain that is exhibited through attraction. People are attracted to other people, and after a few months of a relationship with one person, people just become dependent.
And I think it’s true, but I think because of the way society shapes us, we kind of have to abide by it and believe in this idea. I mean if there were no expectations of marriage and faithfulness, we would never have the notion of monogamous relationships and the idea of “true love” or “the one”.
But I guess because it’s expected, we kind of have to feel that way…I guess.
